Biographical Sketch

Edward Rector was born at Bedford, Indiana, on July 7, 1863, the son of Isaac and Juliet Rector. His early education was received in the public school there. His scholarship was of the finest; for he was graduated from high school at the age of fifteen, that which had been done by no other student. In 1885, having received his bachelor of laws degree form the University of Cincinnati law school, he was admitted to the bar in Illinois in 1892. He soon became a member of the American, Illinois, and Chicago bar associations. In politics he was a Republican; in religion, a Methodist, which was partially responsible for his great interest in DePauw University. The Edward Rector Scholarship Foundation was founded in 1919 which provided for tuition at DePauw and a fund for which four hundred men from Indiana high school may borrow.
