Biographical Sketch
Dade Bee Shearer recieved her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chicago in 1907 and joined DePauw faculty the same year. She taught under the late Dr. Edwin D. Post until his retirement in 1934 when she succeeded him as head of the Latin department. She earned her Master of Arts degree at DePauw in 1914. Miss Shearer retired herself in 1942 after serving under six DePauw presidents in a career covering one-third of the school's history up to that time. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma, national honorary for teachers, and also served as vice president of the Classical Association of the Midwest for a number of years. She was elected an honorary member of Mortar Board at DePauw. Her other memberships were in P.E.O Fortnightly Club, the Presbyterian Church and the YWCA board. Dade Bee Shearer died on October 11, 1956 in her home at Washington, Iowa, after being in poor health since 1950.
