Historical Sketch
The DePauw chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon began as a "living colony" or "local fraternity" known as Phi Alpha, and appeared on the campus in 1947. Phi Alpha petitioned the Sigma Alpha Epsilon nationals for membership, and was granted a charter in 1949.
Originally located in the old Delta Zeta house one block from campus, SAE moved to their current home at 509 South Locust Street in 1953, directly next to the Kappa Kappa Gamma house. In the Spring of 1969 the house was renovated and expanded to house seventy-five brothers.
