Historical Note
The Springville Methodist Episcopal Church was established in 1822. The original meetings were held in the Josiah Athons school house. The first preacher was John May. In 1838, a new brick church was constructed with land donated by Josiah Athons and monetary support provided by Reverend James Williams and his spouse. The brick church was razed by a fire in 1868 and rebuilt in 1874.
