Historical Note

First United Methodist Church was founded in Winchester, Randolph County, Indiana in 1822. Churchgoers met in the home of Mary Martin Reeder (1797-1890). A Methodist class was organized in 1832, but no church building was built until 1835. They later moved from this log building into a brick church in 1852. In 1889, the congregation moved into the Stone Methodist Episcopal Church building, which was destroyed ten years later in a fire. The church was rebuilt in 1900, and this building was used until the church closed on December 31, 2015.
