Biographical Sketch
DePauw University class of 1955, bachelor's degree in zoology. She was a longtime advocate of education. She was a former Republican legislator and chairman of the House Education Committee. She was also a longtime columnist for the Idaho Press-Tribune. Her career in politics began as part of a citizens' committee for the Nampa School District. In 1972, she was appointed to the Idaho Board of Education, serving 12 years, twice as chairman. She was elected to the Legislature in 1984, where she chaired the Education Committee during the 1989-90 session. She married Dr. Bob Hay and settled in Nampa in 1961, much by accident. The Hays became friends with Canyon County natives Harold and Marguerite Brown while Bob Hay and the Browns were attending the University of Washington Medical School in Seattle. The three wanted to practice medicine together, and started what became the Medical Center Physicians clinic in Nampa. Hay taught physiology at the College of Idaho from 1963 to 1971, putting her training in the zoology to work. She was also on the board of directors of West One Bank and REI sporting good dealer. Bob and Janet Hay have three children.
