Biographical Sketch
Samuel Morris was taken into slavery in West Africa, escaped, and worked on a coffee plantation for his passage to America. He was the first black to attend Taylor University. He intended to return to Africa as a missionary to his people, but died in 1893 while still a student at Taylor.
