Biographical Sketch
In 1883, the Northwest Indiana Conference pledged $15,000 in endowment to Indiana Asbury University to help it through its financial crisis. Washington C. DePauw pledged $240,000 of his own money, which resulted in the university being renamed DePauw University in 1884.
