Collection Statement
The collection consists of diaries, illustrations, poems, letters, journals, and articles by and about Elijah Evan Edwards. It includes data about his life as a student at Indiana Asbury University, his military service as a Chaplain in the Civil War, his term as the first president of Colorado State Agricultural College, now Colorado State University, and other information by or about Elijah Edwards from 1846-1910. Illustrations consist mainly of pen and ink sketches of student life at Indiana Asbury University and army life during the Civil War. Portions of the diaries are copies of originals held by Colorado State University and the Minnesota Historical Society. The Civil War Diaries were written by E.E. Edwards many years after the war and were based on letters to his wife, letters for publication in local papers, and sketches from his pocket diary.
